Hawaii’s Isolation from Continental America
Much like Alaska, which is geographically detached from the contiguous United States (Canada lies in between), Hawaii is also separated from the mainland. What makes it even more fascinating is that Hawaii is situated over 2,000 miles away from the U.S. mainland.
While Hawaii is an official state of the Union, it lacks geographical contiguity. From a geographical standpoint, Hawaii is not part of North America but belongs to Polynesia, a region within Oceania.
