Oldest High School West of the Rocky Mountains
Founded in 1831 as a Protestant missionary school, Lahainaluna High School is the oldest of its kind west of the Rocky Mountains. Situated in Lahaina on the island of Maui, the second-largest island in the Hawaiian archipelago, this institution pioneered Western-style education.
Today, Lahainaluna High School educates around 1,000 students yearly, spanning grades 9 through 12. Behind the school lies a graveyard, the final resting place of numerous teachers, students, and early pioneers.
