Matt Damon achieved immense success as Jason Bourne in “The Bourne Identity” and “The Bourne Supremacy.” However, he was disappointed with the script provided by Tony Gilroy for “The Bourne Ultimatum.” Damon revealed that Universal Studios granted Gilroy creative freedom and a substantial budget, resulting in a script that Damon described as “terrible.”
He further characterized the initial draft as “career-ending.” Multiple rewrites ensued, with some scenes being hastily rewritten just before filming. Despite the chaotic development process, “The Bourne Ultimatum” ultimately became a major success.
