12. Breaking The Bank

One day, one of the bosses at the company I used to work for was reviewing a bank statement. And noticed some additional fees that he found excessively high. He called the bank to inquire about these charges. But even the bank personnel seemed unable to provide a satisfactory explanation. They were unhelpful and unwilling to waive any of the fees, leaving him frustrated with the situation.

In an act of revenge, he chose to close his accounts with the bank. Which included settling the remainder of his multi-million dollar mortgage in cash. I was surprised to learn that he had enough cash in his checking account to fully pay off his mortgage. Considering he initially opted for a mortgage instead of paying for his house outright with cash.

Later, the bank’s mortgage department realized the impact of his actions. And the substantial loss of interest income they would incur. They pleaded with him to refinance and return, but he firmly declined, giving them a resounding “no.” His decision to sever ties with the bank remained unwavering despite their attempts to persuade him otherwise.
