9. A Deck That Was Quite Far

During my time at university, there was a wealthy guy known for getting a new car every semester. In his final semester, he found himself in a dispute over a $30 parking ticket. The issue arose because he parked in a spot designated for faculty. Opting to be closer to the building rather than using the decks that were a 10-minute walk away.

However, his defense was adamant: “I frequently park in faculty spots and pay the fine; I know how it works. This time, I wasn’t actually in a faculty spot.” When the administration reviewed his record, they discovered a staggering truth. Over the past four years, he had accumulated more than 300 tickets for parking in faculty spots.

Above all, he had promptly paid all the fines without hesitation. His philosophy seemed to be, “Forget it; I’m not walking. I’ll just park in the faculty spot and pay the fine every day.” Surprisingly, the administration ended up waiving the one fine he disputed. Suggesting he may have been right that it wasn’t actually a faculty spot.
