Wu Zetian of China
Wu Zetian, the first and only female emperor of China, ruled with a firm hand during the 7th century. While her husband initially reigned alongside her, it was widely believed that she wielded the lion’s share of power throughout his 20-year rule.
Although often depicted with a round and heavy face, it is plausible that the empress had a different appearance in her youth. Historical accounts suggest she possessed a long neck, a prominent visage, and large eyes.
