Fictitious Township

The vicinity around the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) has been a prime location for propaganda dissemination for years. The North Korean government constructed a small town near the DMZ to seek a platform for their messages to be heard. This town was designed to present an appealing facade and to entice South Koreans into defection.

Yet, its primary purpose was to amplify North Korea’s rhetoric through loudspeakers. In 2004, both sides agreed to cease broadcasting propaganda, rendering the once-bustling city deserted.
