Ava Gardner
Ava Gardner’s distinct southern accent, hailing from South Carolina, initially posed a challenge for MGM due to her incomprehensibility. Nonetheless, her beauty secured her a contract with the studio. It took five years for her to achieve a breakthrough with the film noir “The Killers,” launching her into stardom.
For five decades, she held her position as a top Hollywood actress, but by the mid-1980s, the effects of her lifelong smoking habit began to take a toll. Emphysema set in, and in 1986, two strokes left her paralyzed. She eventually passed away from pneumonia in 1990.
