Bon Appétit
Don’t feel too bad, Sonja. I don’t know Italian either, and I would have been just as confused and cheerful about it, although I’d probably have nodded mutely to avoid making a misstep. Let me save you the Google search for those like Sonja and me. “Buon Appetito” means “Enjoy your meal.” That makes a lot more sense in context.
Upon further thought, I’d have said, “Yes, please!” I love potatoes, and Italians have a way of preparing them with garlic, paprika, butter, and Parmesan cheese, which sounds amazing. Perhaps Sonja must live a little and give in to a few delicious desires. Potatoes are the lumpy food jewels of the culinary world and deserve the utmost respect.
