Moving Around
A year later, the family moved back to Wisconsin. They spent three more years there, and then the town of Walnut Grove, Minnesota, came calling to them. It was a life that was never settled, and Laura Ingalls Wilder would only know this existence for many years. They became a family of six in 1877 when Grace Pearl was born.
Having lived in Wisconsin, Kansas, Minnesota, and Iowa, the Ingalls needed to settle, especially as there were money troubles at that time. It was in 1879 that Charles managed to get a job with the railroad in the Dakota Territory, where he worked as a bookkeeper and clerk. The family then relocated to De Smet in South Dakota.
