Mother-Daughter Team
Laura significantly influenced her daughter Rose, and Rose equally influenced her. In 1906, Rose married salesman Claire Gillette Lane, becoming Rose Wilder Lane, a name she retained for writing even after her divorce. Post-marriage, Rose moved frequently, echoing her childhood, and took up newspaper writing for financial needs. This evolved into a thriving writing career, gaining momentum with her hiring as a writer and editor at the San Francisco Bulletin, eventually leading her to author books.
Rose knew her mother could be successful and encouraged her to start. She served as her mother’s editor and leveraged her connections to secure the publication of Laura’s work in nationally-read magazines like McCall’s and Country Gentleman.
