After publishing Little House in the Big Woods, Laura got a royalty check for $500. This turned out to be her smallest royalty check, yet its value, nearly $9,000 in today’s money, was impressive. Her books rapidly gained popularity, never going out of print, and were eventually released worldwide in translations into 40 languages.
Things were looking up for the Wilders, and their hard work had paid off. Even during the Depression, the family did not have to struggle as much as many, and with success came fame and respect for Laura.
