The Crash
In 1929, the Wilders saw their savings wiped out when the stock market crashed at the onset of the Great Depression. Rose had to step up and help on the farm during this time. No matter where people were in their lives, the Depression impacted them in one way or another, and everybody had to work harder to make it through.
Thankfully, though, they did not lose their farm. It was a tough time for everybody, but it was a time of great productivity for Laura as she threw herself into her writing. This period of mother and daughter working together to keep the family farm from going under would bring them to success they never thought possible as Laura finally would write the books that made her famous.
