Catherine the Great’s love for modernization extended to the realm of arts. Acquiring a significant collection from Frederick II of Prussia, including 13 original Rembrandt paintings, marked the beginning of her extensive art collection. 

Catherine’s passion for art resulted in the accumulation of thousands of paintings and artifacts during her lifetime. Her contributions laid the foundation for what would eventually become the renowned Hermitage Museum in the Winter Palace, showcasing her discerning eye and lasting impact on Russian culture.
