In a document discovered in her later years, Catherine the Great outlined her final wishes with precision. Expressing a desire for a restrained mourning period, she mandated that mourning dress be worn for six months, no longer. Eager to avoid prolonged grief in Russia, Catherine’s instructions reflected her pragmatic approach to her own passing.

Additionally, she specified her posthumous attire, opting for a white dress with a golden crown inscribed with her Christian name. These meticulous directives offered a glimpse into Catherine’s careful consideration of her legacy.
