This precautionary measure is designed to thwart foreign invasions by blocking critical passages, significantly impeding or even halting any potential aggressors. While it may appear extreme, this defensive strategy is rooted in the historical context of Switzerland, particularly the vulnerabilities it faced in the aftermath of the two World Wars.
