Northern Lights and Midnight Sun

Iceland is one of the rare countries where you can experience both the Midnight Sun and the Northern Lights. The Midnight Sun phenomenon occurs in regions south of the Antarctic Circle and North of the Arctic Circle during the summer months each year.

During the Midnight Sun period, the sun doesn’t set for several weeks, a phenomenon known as the Summer Solstice. Icelanders have traditions associated with this unique occurrence. On the flip side, the Northern Lights are best observed when the background is sufficiently dark. With the arrival of winter, the nights become dark and provide the perfect conditions to spot the mesmerizing Northern Lights in Iceland.

‘Per Capita’

“per capita” is commonly used in Iceland, denoting “per person.” Despite the country’s relatively small size, Icelanders take immense pride in considering their beloved land the best country in the world when assessed per capita.

Iceland has achieved some remarkable per capita distinctions. They’ve won the Miss World title four times, boasting the most beautiful women per capita. The country has produced the most Nobel Prize winners per capita, although it currently has only one Nobel Laureate.
