Paul Bettany / The Avengers
Well, it turns out that becoming Vision wasn’t as easy as waking up with superpowers. Makeup artist Jeremy Woodhead had to work to get the color of Vision’s skin just right. They mixed many colors until they found the perfect shade that didn’t make him look like a walking tomato.
Woodhead also didn’t want to cover up Paul Bettany’s gorgeous face with too many prosthetics, so they kept it minimal. They only used prosthetics on his forehead, the back of his head, and his neck, freeing the rest of his face. Vision needed to be able to move and groove, after all. This careful approach to makeup allowed Paul Bettany to convey Vision’s otherworldly appearance while still maintaining his expressiveness as an actor.
