Ian Holm / The Lord of the Rings

You remember Bilbo Baggins from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, right? Well, Ian Holm had to go through quite the transformation to become him. He had so many layers of prosthetics and makeup on that he probably couldn’t recognize himself in the mirror. Bilbo was depicted at different stages of his life, so multiple makeup looks were needed.

The WETA Workshop in New Zealand created the prosthetics for the movies, and it took about four hours for each character to be fully made up. That’s dedication! The team meticulously crafted the prosthetic pieces and applied them with precision to achieve the various looks required for Bilbo Baggins throughout the film.
