Kirstie Alley’s journey in show business began with her role in the 1982 film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. In the movie, she portrayed Saavik, a Starfleet officer holding the rank of Lieutenant junior grade. Saavik’s character had notable moments where she occupied the captain’s chair and took command of the ship, overseeing its activities in and out of the spacedock.
Despite her Vulcan heritage, which typically meant displaying limited emotion, Saavik shed tears at Spock’s funeral, adding depth to her character. Although Saavik’s background was never fully explored on screen, it has been further developed and interpreted in novels and comic books, enriching her story in the extended Star Trek universe.
