A Tour Around the Country
In this comparison, we see a North Korean tour guide atop the Tower of the Juche Idea in Pyongyang and her South Korean counterpart on the viewing deck of the 63 Building (officially called 63 Square) in Seoul. While both countries have tour guides to facilitate visitors’ experiences, significantly more stringent regulations and restrictions are in place when it comes to touring North Korea.
These restrictions are hardly surprising given the closed nature of the North Korean regime, where the government closely monitors and controls interactions with foreigners. This marked difference in tour regulations reflects the two Koreas’ contrasting political and societal environments.
