One of the World’s Oldest Scripts
Greek claims the distinction of being one of the world’s oldest languages. The Greek alphabet emerged at the dawn of the 8th century B.C.E. Many pivotal works and foundational texts, such as the Iliad and the works of Aristotle and Plato, originally found their written form in Greek.
The Greek language was a source for developing Latin, Armenian, Coptic, and Cyrillic writing systems. Moreover, Greek was the first script in history to include distinct vowel letters.
