#31 Recognizing When Dogs Are Alert

When alert, a dog often exhibits specific body language: a tense or forward-leaning posture, wide eyes, forward-pointing ears, a closed and tense mouth, and a raised tail, which may sometimes wag. This alertness typically occurs when something captures the dog’s attention, and they are trying to gather more information about it.

The forward ears indicate they’re focusing on certain sounds. As long as this alert behavior is not accompanied by constant anxiety or restlessness, it’s a normal part of a dog’s response to their environment.
